Synopsis
The episode begins with Grandpa complaining that Yugi hasn't done his chores. He then gets excited and closes the shop to watch the Battle City Tournament. Everyone goes foward to the starting points and Kaiba flies over in his blimp explaining the rules. He starts the tournament and Joey tells Yugi that that's the Rare Hunter is the one who took his Red Eyes Black Dragon. Joey wants a rematch but the rare hunter declines but he challenges Yugi because he wants his Dark Magician. The duel begins and Joey tries to tell Yugi the Rare Hunter's strategy but the Rare Hunter says if he tells him his strategy he'd rip his Red Eyes. Yugi begins the duel with Beta the Magnet Warrior(1400/1700) in attack mode along with two cards face down. On the Rare Hunter's turn Yugi activated Light of Invertention preventing the Rare Hunter to play cards face-down. The Rare Hunter doesn't care since he already has two pieces of Exodia and then he played Graceful Charity to draw three cards and then discard two. He now has three pieces of Exodia and he summons Stone Statue(300/2000) in defense mode and ended his turn. Yugi countered by sacrificing his Warrior to play Berfomet King of the Mythical Beasts which also summons Gazelle King of the Mythical Beasts. Then he fused both of them with Polymerization to form Chimera the Flying Mythical Beasts(2100/1800). Since Battle City rules says Fusion Monsters can't attack same turn summoned so Yugi simply ended his turn. The Rare Hunter played another Gracful Charity giving the Rare Hunter four pieces of Exodia. Next the Rare Hunter played a Fortress(800/2200) in defense mode. Using his x-ray contact lense he sees he's about to draw the final piece of Exodia. Joey tries to tell him his strategy but stops him. He reminds Joey the time when Weevil threw his Exodia pieces into the ocean. Just then Yugi figured out the Rare Hunter's starategy but how will Yugi win when the next card he draws is the final piece of Exodia?
Notes
  • This episode marks the premiere of the new opening sequence. The music is simply a different section of the full Yu-Gi-Oh! Theme (found on the Music to Duel By soundtrack) while the clips in the new opening go all the way to the end of Battle City and include clips from the first three Japanese openings (Voice, Shuffle AND Wild Drive).
  • Quotes
    (Joey calls Serenity)
    Tristan: Serenity's room.
    Joey: Tristan?????
Tristan: I am with your sister right now keeping her company. (Then hands Serenity the phone)
Serenity: Hi Joey, how come you never told me that Tristan taught you everything you need to know about duel monsters? Also when you were second place in duelist kingdom, how come you never told me it was Tristan that help you got there? How come you neevr told me that it was Tristan that help you get the 3 million dollars for my surgery. (Then hands Tristan the phone)
Tristan: Hey, use the 3 card combo that I taught you.(Then hung up)
Joey: Heeeh, I am going to kick your lying butt Tristan!!

Business Man: "Hmm, Bob, what are those odd things everyone is wearing?"
Bob: "Giant wrist-watches. Very popular these days."
Kids: "They're duel disks. And if you'll step aside, the duelists are taking over this town!"

JOEY: They call them selves Rare Hunters, which to me translates into "Cape-wearing, card taking freak-a-zoids!!"

"All this for a card game?"- One of the citizens as he listens to Kaiba explain the rules for the Battle City Tournament.

MAKO(To Weevil)-If I remember you were the first duelist sent trudgging home at Duelist Kingdom.

    Goofs and Nitpicks
  • Gear Golem the Moving Fortress is a level 5 monster so wouldn't Rare Hunter have to sacrifice a monster to summon it?
  • In the scene with Kaiba watching the duel, the screen shows two Graceful charity cards. If that was showing his hand, then the rare hunter would have ended up with four (he already used one, he had one in his hand the whole time, and he draws another.) It couldn't have been showing the graveyard, because it only showed 3 cards.
  • When Yugi summons Beta, Joey's duel disk looks like a propeller.
  • The rare hunter exclaims "How will you stop the unstoppable Exodia?" Then Yugi says "True nobody has ever defeated Exodia." but the rare hunter says nothing like that!!
  • The rare hunter said he would draw Exodia's left arm on his next turn. But it shows Exodia's right arm instead!!!
  • Throughout this episode the rare hunter holds the cards in his hand so the last couple of cards would fall off. But they were floating in the air!!
  • When Seeker used his first Graceful Charity, he discarded the 2 cards on his far left. Those were actually 2 Exodia pieces he discarded!!!
  • When the rare hunter gets up from his chair he doesn't have a duel disk on. Then a second later you can see that its clearly on!!
  • In the Chain Destruction sequence, the chain thing destroys three Exodia heads. That's impossible. One Exodia head is on the field, and the guy only had three Exodias, right? You can't even have three Exodias, because it's against the official rules.
  • Apparently the shows rules are a little bit different from the official rules because the Rare Hunter had more than one "Graceful Charity"card.
  • On the first turn of the game, The Rare Hunter plays a card in defense mode. Then Yugi thinks, "What is this Rare Hunter up to? He's done nothing but play cards in defense mode the whole game!" Well, of course he has, he's only played one turn!
  • No Yugi/Yami says " Whats this Rare Hunter doing? All he's done so far is draw cards and play monsters in defense mode."
  • IRL, Graceful Charity is restricted to 2, not 1
