Synopsis
Yugi and his friends have given up their search for Mokuba, and they go to find more people to duel. However, Mai is doing very well for herself. She has won 8 star chips, and when Rex Raptor returns to duel her, he has only 5 star chips. And, because of what Mai did on the boat (see Journey to the Duelist Kingdom), he wants a rematch. But, Mai is very mad, because she lost to Joey (see First Duel), and he is a rookie to Duel Monsters. She decides to agree to the duel, but only if Rex beats Joey first. Rex agrees at the thought of easy star chips. When Joey finds Rex and Mai, he decides to accept their challenge. But Mai says he can't have nay help from Yugi. He will have to beat Rex alone. The holographic projector is raised, and the match starts with Joey's Baby Dragon vs. Rex's Two Headed King-Rex. Rex calls Joey a "dueling monkey", because he has no idea what he is doing. This makes Joey really mad, and makes him want to win even more. The King-Rex beats the Baby Dragon easily. Yugi also leaves the area to check something out he sees nearby. Joey sends out a lion creature, and then he sends out an Axe Raider, which has a power bonus, and destroys the King-Rex. But Rex's next creature is very powerful, and he kills the Axe Raider. Meanwhile, Yugi and Tristan are talking about Joey. Tristan wants Yugi to help Joey, but Yugi says that they have to believe in him. Yugi reminds Tristan about Joey's sister, and how he needs to be able to win on his own. Back at the duel, Joey sends out his Time Wizard, and this brings memories back to Mai. The Time Wizard was what beat Mai, but she thinks that he can't use it without Yugi's guidance. After Rex defeats an ogre creature, Joey then sends out a Flame Swordsman, with the Time Wizard still in play. Mai sees Joey's strategy, and tries to warn Rex, but he ignores her. Fire is strong against dinosaur cards, and his Flame Swrodsman and his new Swamp Battleguard fight through Rex's deck like a hot knife through butter. But, Rex sends out a Sperpent-Knight Dragon, a promotional card, given to people who make it to the final round of regional tournaments. It wipes out Joey's monsters. Joey then draws a card Tristan gave him, and Joey enters a flashback to when Joey and Tristan were in a gang, and fighting rivals. Joey realizes Tristan is a true friend, and he looks down at his friedns, who have come back, and he sends out the card. Because Trsitan's card is related to one of Joey's cards, they look out for each other, like best friends, and deflects Rex's attacks. But, Rex sends out a shadowed creature, and tells Joey to prepare to be wiped out. TO BE CONTINUED...
Notes
Quotes
Triston:(To Mai and Rex) "We're sorry. Little Joey won't be coming out to duel today. Maybe when he grows up we can arrange a play-date."

Joey(after his Flame Swordsman beats Rex's dino): Heh, looks like I found the secret to beatin' your dinos! Hope you're not too SORE about it! Get it? SORE, DINO, DINO-SORE!

Joey:"I can't believe you reduced yourself to being Mai's attack dog!"

Rex:"Least I'm no dueling monkey!"

Joey(flaming with anger):"Rrrrr!"

Rex:"You never leave a baby unattended, and you're about to find out why! Two-Headed King Rex, ATTACK!"

Mai:"You don't get it, do you?! Little Joey's already made the one fatal mistake that'll cost him this entire duel! And that was ever agreeing to this match in the first place!"

Mai:(to Rex) Funny I thought I'd already knocked you on your Jurassic butt!
Rex: Think what you want, you're about to get stomped!
Mai: You think I'm gonna waste another minute on a peabrain like you? Beat it Dino-Breath! Shoo! Shoo!

Mai: How are you Joseph? Glad to see me?
Joey: Ecstatic.

Mai: *unenthusiastically* Wow, that was a real challenge. It ranks right up there with doing my nails.

Goofs and Nitpicks
  • The field power bonus should have increased the Sword Arm Of Dragon's DEF to 2639, but it only increased to 2630.
  • At one point, Joey is seen without his duelling glove on.
  • The Flame Swordsman is a Fusion monster, however Joey only ever plays it as a standard monster.
  • When Mai said she lose to Joey. Rex said: You lose to Joey Wheeler? First of all, how did Rex know Joey Wheeler in the first place, Joey did saw Rex but Joey never told Rex his name.
  • When it shows the two battle guards together it shows thier attack as 1595 which is way less than what it should be.
  • Joey said the Flame Sword'sman is his strongest card, but his Giltia the Knight is (that is, before he wins Rex's Red Eyes).
  • Both Tristan and Joey say they shoved each other, when it is obvious they both slugged each other in the face and the stomach.
  • i've read a magizine confirming about the flame swordsman. In the japanese version of the show the flame swordsman is still purple for fusion but is played regulary. They changed the color to a normal monster in america.
  • The two battleguards attack power appears as joeys life points as well.
  • Even with the power boost that they give each other, the Battleguards would still have 50 less attack power than the Serpent Knight Dragon.
  • About The Earth Warriro Battle Guard thing, they were earth swordsman, which menat they got an atk increase from the field, menaing they were strong enough.
  • Correction: They were playing on a wilderness field, so the Battleguards wouldn't get a power bonus because they are Warriors and Warrior monsters only get a power bonus from the plains.
  • Correction: On the comment about them showing the Battleguards attack power as too low a number, they weren't showing their attack power. They were showing Joey's life points.
  • Battleguards Correction: Joey's side of the field was the Plains because his other Warrior Monsters (Axe Raider and Flame Swordsman) got a Field Power Bonus from it. The Battleguards got the Field Power Bonus and the 500 Attack Points increase from their effects.
  • When Rex had Sword Arm Of Dragon attack the Flame Swordsman, it showed him placing it on the field again, but it never even left the field.
  • Joey when summoned a rock monster, he called it Rock Ogre when it's really called Rock Ogre Grotto #1.
